This year gardens were unable to open for much of the season due to statewide COVID-19 restrictions. The 11 finalists are then presented to the community for a vote. The 5 projects with the most votes get funded by their Council Member's discretionary funds, which are monetary resources Council Members allocate based on their understanding of community needs.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="color:rgb(42, 42, 42)">&#8203;</span><br /><span style="color:rgb(42, 42, 42)">The voting runs from March 30 through April 7. 6BC is a finalist in District 2. They were to join his father, Benjamin Liptzin who had emigrated to the USA several years earlier.&nbsp;<br />This Certificate of Naturalization dated February 28, 1912 shows that the family - Benjamin, Fannie, Solomon and younger brother David were all residents of 628 E. 6th Street.&nbsp;<br />A special thank-you to Benjamin Liptzin&rsquo;s great-granddaughter, Elizabeth for sharing her family connection to our garden site and for her gift in her ancestors&rsquo; memory.<br /><br />&ldquo;Loisaida&rdquo; is still a diverse community of immigrants today.
