EVENT FAQS

Before you start planning your own event, you should know that:

ALL PRIVATE EVENTS WITH MORE THAN  FIVE ATTENDEES REQUIRE PREVIOUS APPROVAL. THIS INCLUDES FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND MEMBER-HOSTED PARTIES.

The garden must remain open to the public during your event (and must happen during open hours).
  • "Private" parties (birthday, wedding, etc.) may have no more than 30 people in attendance, so that we can fulfill our GreenThumb mandate of keeping the garden open to the general public at the same time as your event.
  • Public events are limited to ninety people at one time, due to the structure of the plots and paths.
  • No alcohol or smoking of any kind is permitted. These are NY City Parks Dept. rules.
  • No open fires are permitted.
  • There is no electric power.
  • There are no bathrooms at 6BC.

All the same, the garden may fit your needs: Many people have found that it’s the perfect place for their wedding ceremony; receptions are often held elsewhere, and we have had many highly successful poetry, music, art, workshops and children's events in our garden as well.

As 6BC Garden receives no funding from either city, state, or federal funds, 6BC Garden requests donations for events.  All donations are used for garden maintenance. To donate, please go to the "Donate" page of our website;

How to get your event approved:
  • Check our calendar to see if another event has already been scheduled on your preferred date (be aware that some events may not yet be posted).
  • Fill out our events form. Please tell us as much as possible about your plans, including the time, date and number of participants you anticipate. For weddings fill out our weddings form at least four weeks in advance. One of our volunteers will reach out to you shortly.
  • Any questions? Contact us at [email protected].
  • Please plan ahead! 6BC Garden is run entirely by volunteers. While we try to respond to requests within a week, we are not always able to respond to your inquiries or open the garden on short notice. Requests for events less than two weeks in advance of the event can not be considered.
